About Me

I’m Lisa Mills.
Blog owner. Lover of natural spaces. Animal advocate.

A bird enthusiast and professional dog cuddler

Even as a little kid, I always knew I wanted to work with animals. This lead me to pursue biology in college, and I got my Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

During my college years I supplemented my need for animal love by working at a zoo, a kennel and dog daycare, and eventually starting my own pet-sitting business.

After college I started working as a field biologist helping collect data for avian ecology research. I’ve been to Peru monitoring Scarlet Macaw nestlings, Arizona studying habitat use Pinyon Jays, Maryland for a landbird monitoring project, and Ecuador to band tropical montane forest birds.

When I’m not on a field job I live in North Carolina, USA and love hiking in the mountains with some of my favorite pups, and hanging out with my (indoor) cat.

Writing to support our wildlife

I started this blog to entertain others with my stories, as well as inspire others to care more about wildlife and the habitats they live in.

Through living more sustainably, supporting good causes, and being invested in research and education, we can help heal the natural world and support healthier populations of animals and people.

In addition to blogging, I am a freelance content writer specializing in sustainable business marketing and science content writing. Supporting sustainable businesses and getting people excited about science can help change our relationship with the natural world for the better.
